How we deal with one another directly structures our physiological and neurological processes. That says David Rock, co-founder of the American <a href=\"https:\/\/neuroleadership.com\/about-us\/background\/our-story\">NeuroLeadership Institute<\/a>. That is why we have to look at the world of work differently: \u201cAlthough a job is often regarded as a purely economic transaction &#8230; the brain experiences the workplace first and foremost as a social system.\u201d This has far-reaching consequences: \u201cPeople who feel betrayed or unrecognized at work &#8211; for example when they feel reprimanded, given an assigment that is unworthy, or told to take a pay cut &#8211; experience it as a neural impulse, as powerful and painful as a blow to the head. &#8220;For executives this results in new tasks: &#8220;Leaders who understand this dynamic can more effectively engage their employees best talents, support collaborative teams, and create an environment that fosters productive change. Indeed, the ability to intentionally address the social brain in the service of optimal performance will be a distinguishing leadership capability in the years ahead &#8220;(strategy + business, issue 56).
